A few months back I started a new series here on emilyloula – A Few Of My Favourite Things (see the first edition here). I started this up to talk to you guys about things I am loving, can’t stop using and feel that I have to share with you, as I personally love reading these styles of posts myself. Usually these roundup posts will include all sorts of things, from different categories, not just beauty, however as I’m writing this now I am realising that this post is pretty much all beauty… Maybe next month I will fall in love with something that’s not makeup hey… (I doubt it)
Gerard Cosmetics Slay All Day Setting Spray > £12.50
The first thing I’m absolutely loving is Gerard Cosmetic’s new setting spray. I picked this up in my Huge Beauty Bay Haul last month, and I’ve been using it every time I’ve worn a full face of makeup since. First of all, isn’t the name amazing?! – ‘Slay All Day’, I just love it! The packaging is fab as well, and includes a black and gold box when you originally buy it – very snazzy looking. Gerard Cosmetics offer a few different scents of this spray, including lavender, lemongrass, jasmine and more but I originally decided on the Green Tea & Ginger scent, which I absolutely adore as it’s such a fresh, yet calming scent. Since purchasing this and being so impressed I also picked up the Peach version in the Beauty Bay Best of USA Box a little while back, which I love too! This definitely helps to keep my makeup on way better than any other setting spray I have previously tried, and I just can’t get enough of the lovely scents – I’m a huge fan and would definitely recommend!
Stila | One Step Correct Primer > £22.50
Along with the Gerard Cosmetics spray, in my Beauty Bay Haul I also picked up Stila’s One Step Correct Primer, which I have quite literally fallen head over heels in love with. This is, without a doubt, the best primer I have ever tried – I honestly wish I had tried it sooner! Firstly, I love the packaging, and how cool the little individually swirled colours are in the tube?! Every time I get this out of my makeup bag, someone is always in awe of how snazzy it is! Each colour correcting shade work together to balance out the skin tone. The green counteracts redness whilst concealing blemishes, the lavender counteracts yellow undertones and the peach tone helps to brighten, illuminate and diminishes the appearance of sun spots.
I also absolutely love how it feels on my skin, as it’s not silicone or slimy at all, it feels slightly hydrating actually and is said to also control the oil production, and improve the skins texture, which is fab. I have a fair amount of acne scars, and my skin is very red toned in general so I’m always on the lookout for a product that will help with that, and I can safely say I’ve found it. This primer from Stila definitely helps to counteract the redness in my skin like nothing else I’ve tried – I just love how it looks after I’ve applied it. This stuff is honestly magic in a bottle – it’s weightless, yet creamy and doesn’t clog my pores up or settle into fine lines. All the hype surrounding it is well and truly justified in my opinion. I’ve almost finished mine, and I can definitely say I will be repurchasing another without a second thought.
Last month I tried out my first ever Seventeen product in the form of their Stay Time Foundation (mentioned in this post) and I honestly couldn’t believe how much I loved it. Previous to this, Seventeen wasn’t a brand that I had tried before, and to be honest, I tended to walk past the stand in Boots without paying much attention to the products, although I’m not too sure why. However, since falling in love with their foundation, I knew I had to try out some more bits from this personally undiscovered brand and as if by magic, Seventeen got in touch with me asking if I would like to test some bits out. Of course, I jumped at their kind offer, and I’m so glad I did because it meant that I’ve found my new favourite concealer ever…
Seventeen | Skin WOW! Concealer* > £4.99
For the past few years I have been dedicated to my trusty Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer, using and repurchasing it all the time. I never found anything that compared to it in my opinion, until I tried out Seventeen’s Skin WOW! Concealer. I’m not sure why I didn’t try this out sooner as I had heard great things on many blogs, but I’m so glad I’ve finally gotten my hands on it, as I’m now a huge fan. It’s a thicker, high coverage concealer that disguises my dark circles and blemishes without caking or creasing under my eyes. I also love using this to highlight my cupids bow, and my brow bone, as it gives a nice highlight without being shimmery in the slightest. The only gripe I have about this product, is the packaging style. I personally am really not a fan of products with built in brush applicators such as this, especially concealers. I’m not sure why it bothers me, and I know that plenty of people have no problem with it, I suppose it does make application that little bit easier – it’s just personal preference! But I’m just not one for standing around pressing the button and eagerly awaiting the product flowing from the tip, hoping that I haven’t clicked it too many times and will waste a load of product. Other than this one slight flaw (IMO) I absolutely adore this concealer, and it has definitely taken the top spot in my makeup bag – a big thumbs up from me.
Seventeen | Define & Conquer Contour Kit* > £5.99
Since contouring became all the rage in the last year or so, I have developed quite the collection of contour products, but one thing I was missing was an ‘everyday’ contour kit, as I would call it. Just something that gives my face a little definition without going crazy, and I think I’ve found the perfect one in this Define & Conquer Contour Kit. The bronze shade is cool toned, and not orangey, so it really does work for a very minimal contour. If I am going ‘out out’, as I like to say, I wouldn’t reach for this, as it is really subtle, but that’s why I love it, for a day to day basis. The ‘highlight’ shade in this duo, isn’t actually a highlight shade in my opinion, as it’s completely matte, and matches my skin tone pretty well, so doesn’t highlight for me at all. However, I find this is actually really handy to put underneath my contour, both the shade from this palette, and others as it makes it pop a little more. It’s also really handy to use in case I make any mistakes, to ‘clean’ it up, it’s another product from Seventeen I wish I had tried before!
NYX | Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks > £6.50 each
In the last few months, I have become pretty obsessed with liquid lipsticks. I want to get my hands on every formula I can from various brands, but one set I can’t seem to get enough of are the NYX Lip Lingerie’s. These have had quite mixed reviews, with some people absolutely loving them, and other people hating them and not understanding where the hype is coming from. As I’m sure you can guess by the fact that they have been featured in my favourites post – I’m a big fan. Since taking the photos for this post I’ve actually bought two further shades, bringing my grand total up to 6, and I’m pretty sure I won’t be stopping until I have the whole range…
Compared to some liquid lipstick formulas I have tried, I personally don’t find these to be drying in the slightest, but I am lucky enough to have quite naturally, moisturised lips, so this may not be the case for everyone. These are long wearing, don’t settle into the fine lines in my lips and don’t crumble after long periods of wear, which is a pet hate of mine when it comes to liquid lipsticks. After about 6/7 hours, when these start to fade, they fade nice and evenly and don’t go patchy, which always helps I think. My favourite from the bunch is Exotic, which is a warm mahogany red, which is perfect for me as it’s not a full on red, which often scares me off, and clashes with my hair colour. It’s more of a subtle red that I have been wearing quite a lot recently – the shade is beautiful and the formula is pretty fab too! Bedtime flirt is my new favourite nude liquid lipstick as usually when I wear nude shades, they tend to wash me out and make me look even more pasty than usual, but not this one! If you haven’t given in to the hype and tried these out yet, I would definitely recommend that you do!
The Body Shop | British Rose Eau De Toilette* > £19.00
A few months back I was invited to Body Shop’s launch of their new (at the time) British Rose Range. Before the wonderful event, I never really thought that I was a fan of rose scented things, but surprisingly I completely fell in love with the range as a whole. My favourite item from the bunch is their British Rose Eau De Toilette, which has such a fresh dewy rose scent that I’ve been wearing pretty much all of the time. It’s perfect for the slight warm weather that we are having in the UK, and I always get compliments when I wear this, a simple but delicate scent that I just can’t get enough of. I would definitely recommend giving this a sniff when you’re next in a Body Shop store!
TRESemmé | Oleo Radiance Creamy Moisturiser Mask > £6.99
My hair is very long (almost bum length), incredibly fine, and tangles like nothing else – even my hairdresser told me she hadn’t seen hair like it before – great… This means that I need to use hair masks on a regular basis, otherwise it just becomes completely unmanageable. My current favourite hair mask has to be TRESemmés Oleo Radiance Creamy Moisturiser Mask, which I picked up after reading Miss Makeup Magpie’s glowing review. This is an incredibly thick hair mask, that smells delicious, and really does work to nourish my hair. I slather this all over my hair (usually at the same time as applying a face mask), about 10 minutes before I get in the shower, whack my hair up into a messy bun and leave it to nourish my locks. Once I’ve washed this out in the shower my hair feels really fab, it’s so soft and smells incredible too, absolutely love this still and will definitely continue to buy it!
Avene | Eau Thermale Thermal Water Spray > £3.00
I picked this up on a complete whim when I was in London waiting for the lovely Kirstie from Behind The Scent before a blogging event, as usually being in the hustle of London gets me all flustered. Realistically all this is, is spring water in an aerosol can, but for me it’s an absolute dream to spritz on my face when I’m getting a little hot, flustered or stressing slightly. It helps to soothe me, and calm me down, which I absolutely love. We’ve had some very hot days here in the UK in the last month (only a couple but they were scorchers!), and this little can has really helped me out! When lightly spritzed over my face, it doesn’t ruin my makeup so it’s a definite handbag essential for me in the summer!
So those are a few of my favourite things from this month – what did you think? Have you tried anything I’ve mentioned in this post – or would you like to now? What’s your favourite makeup product this month? As always, I’d love to have a read of your thoughts in the comments, and thank you so much for reading!
