Birchbox is my favourite beauty based subscription service that’s available here in the UK, and one delivery I am always excited to receive at the beginning of each month. This July, Birchbox did something they’ve never done before – and replaced their classic box, with a gorgeous splash-proof clutch bag. There were 4 different coloured bags available for subscribers, each based on a perfect holiday destination – coral (St. Tropez), turquoise (Island of Hydra), yellow (Somerset) and pink (Ibiza). If you couldn’t tell by looking at my blog, pink is my favourite colour, so I was really happy to receive the pink BirchBag filled with lots of exciting goodies.
My July Birchbox (BirchBAG) included;

- UNANI | Aloe Vera Gel
- Benefit Cosmetics | Dream Screen
- Jelly Pong Pong | Glow Getter Luminizer Gel
- POP Beauty | Eyeshadow Trio in ‘Peach Parfait’
- Pura Vida | Lace Headband in ‘Aqua’
Balance Me | Congested Skin Serum
RRP £16 for 15ml | Received 7ml Sample
I’ve tried quite a few products from Balance Me in the past and I’ve always been really impressed with them, so I was happy to see this within this month’s Birchbox. It’s specifically designed for congested skin, which is what my main skin concern is, so I’m sure I’ll get some good use out of this. It’s packed with chamomile, lavender and aloe vera and is said to pinpoint breakouts and soothe all skin types. The serum can be applied directly to the breakout, or to the congested ‘zone’ as a prevention method. I usually break out on my chin and around my jawline so I’ll definitely be giving this a go as a preventative as well as a spot treatment – I’ve got high hopes for it!
Jelly Pong Pong | Glow Getter Luminizer Gel
RRP £8.95 for 4ml | Received Full Sized Item
I’m definitely all for having a glowing complexion this summer – as I’m sure many others will too, so I think this is perfect for July’s Birchbox. It’s a tiny bottle (4ml), looking like a mini nail varnish, but this is actually full sized and worth £8.95. I personally find you only need to use a tiny bit of these type gels, so I’m sure this will last forever! The luminizer gel is said to be super lightweight, and can illuminate brow bones or add some lustre to cheekbones. Truth be told, I’m not the biggest fan of Jelly Pong Pong – I’ve been a bit disappointed with some products I’ve tried from them in the past, so I’m hoping this can change my view on them.
Benefit | Dream Screen
RRP £25 for 45ml | Received 6ml Sample
If you’re a regular reader here on emilyloula, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Benefit – they’re one of my favourite makeup brands of all time. So obviously I was happy to see this dream screen from them within this July’s Birchbox, and I think it’s another great addition to the summer theme. I’ve only tried It’s Potent from their skincare range, but it’s my favourite ever eye cream so I have high hopes for this little bottle. This is a lightweight, matte finish sunscreen with SPF 45 – perfect for those long summer days. It’s a really tiny sample – of 6ml, but it would be great to keep in your handbag or for travelling around as you never know when you may need some extra sun protection.
UNANI | Aloe Vera Gel
RRP £15 | Received 30ml Sample
The thought of Aloe Vera gel, just takes me back to when I was younger, after a day out in the sun, with my sister running away from aliens (my parents) and their goo (the gel). My parents used to use Aloe Vera gel for our aftersun, except this one was bright green, and very thick – looking just as you would expect alien goo to look. The aloe vera gel inside this month’s Birchbox, is quite different and resembles nothing like alien goo – just in case you were worried. The gel from Unani is much thinner, and has a clear consistency but again, is recommended for calming and nourishing the skin after a day in the sun. You can use aloe vera for all sorts of things, from an eye makeup remover to a shaving gel, as well in loads of DIY beauty concoctions. I’m actually looking forward to doing some research and using this little tube for something a little less conventional than an after sun.
POP Beauty | Eyeshadow Trio in ‘Peach Parfait’
RRP £15.50 for 10 shades | Received Three Shades
This eyeshadow trio from POP Beauty is my favourite item within this month’s Birchbox, I mean just look how gorgeous the shades are! When I went to swatch these shades for the above photo – I couldn’t believe how creamy and smooth they were. They’re also super pigmented and aren’t chalky at all – with very little fall out. The booklet that comes inside Birchbox says to apply the peach shade all over the lid, then the darker colour through the crease and the lightest shade in the inner corner and beneath the brow bone. I’m definitely looking forward to giving this look a try – I’m really impressed with this little trio.
The lifestyle item that was included in my Birchbox was a blue lace headband – that I completely forgot to photograph (bad blogger sorry). I saw a lot of people got a makeup sponge – similar looking to a beauty blender, so I would have been much happier with that included in my box, but we can’t all be winners!
Overall, I’m really happy with this month’s Birchbox – I think it’s actually one of my favourite ever boxes – and that’s saying something! I absolutely love the splash-proof clutch that was included this month, it feels so well made, and really sturdy – this will definitely be coming away with me on my next holiday! I love the theme of July’s Birchbox, as well as ALL of the contents, and that’s definitely a rarity for me, where subscription boxes are concerned.
