My favourite time of the month has come around again – when all my subscription boxes start to flood through my door, allowing me to test out all the goodies inside them. This, of course, includes my beloved Birchbox, which is my favourite UK beauty based subscription service, and one that I have been subscribed to for nearly 2 years now. Birchbox’s theme for the May box is ‘Free Your Mind’, with the box itself having a unique pattern, allowing you to colour it in with the included pencils, a concept which I personally love.
This month’s Birchbox included;
- Caudalie | Vinoperfect Radiance Tinted Moisturiser
- Wah | London Nail Art Pen
- Palor | Moisturising Sea Salt Spray
- Whish | Body Butter in Almond
- Jelly Pong Pong | Caribbean Sun Bronzer Duo
- Number 4 | Lumiere d’Hiver Reconstructing Masque
- Colouring Pencils
Caudalie | Vinoperfect Radiance Tinted Moisturiser
RRP £27 for 40ml | Received 15ml Sample
I’ve been on the hunt for a nice tinted moisturiser for a while, so I was very happy to see this in this month’s birchbox, especially in my correct shade. It has a really nice scent to it and sinks in almost immediately after application, leaving my skin feeling really soft and smooth. The moisturiser claims to treat and brighten the skin whilst adding a little light coverage, which I would totally agree with. It also contains SPF 20, which is a huge bonus for me as I’m really trying to wear an SPF base every day I leave the house now. Its a nice size sample, so there’s definitely enough in there so you are able to get to grips with it and how it works for your skin. I personally really like it, and I’m even thinking of buying the full sized version when this runs out.
Wah London | Nail Art Pen
RRP £7 | Received Full Size (9.5ml)
Apparently this month, Birchbox allowed their readers to choose between a nail polish, nail art pen or press on nails, but I must have missed this memo as I had no idea. I received a purple nail art pen, and when I took the pictures I thought it was just the brush, that you can see. However, upon actually reading the little book which came inside Birchbox I found out that, if you pull the cap, instead of twist there is also a pen nib, which makes it that bit more exciting. I think it’s a great concept and I’m going to start trying to get into nail art soon so this will definitely come in handy.
Palor | Moisturising Sea Salt Spray
RRP £17 for 147ml | Received 30ml Sample
I was very excited to see a salt spray in this month’s Birchbox as literally just days earlier I had unsuccessfully been scouring the shelves of Boots for a new one. I haven’t actually tried this out yet as I’ve been working since receiving my box, but I’m really looking forward to giving it a shot at the weekend. It claims to have a moisturising formula, which isn’t something I’ve come across in a salt spray before, so that’s definitely intriguing. At £17 for a full sized bottle, it’s a bit pricer than what I would normally pay for this kind of product, so I’m really happy to see this included in Birchbox this month.
Whish | Body Butter in Almond
RRP £14.50 for 150ml | Received 22ml Sample
This is the second body butter from Whish that I have received in a Birchbox, so I’m not particularly impressed with that. I’ve got a huge collection of mini body butters and lotions so I think I’m going to pass this onto a family member or friend. I can’t deny that it smells amazing, but it’s just not something I’m going to get any use out of.
Jelly Pong Pong | Caribbean Sun Bronzer Duo
RRP £15.95 | Received Full Size
When I first saw this tiny bronzer duo inside my Birchbox, I thought it was a little sample size, but after looking online, I can tell it’s actually the real deal. I’ve tried a lot of items from Jelly Pong Pong in the past, and everything I’ve tried has just been OK, but none of it has blown me away. I can’t believe how tiny this duo is, there’s absolutely no way I would pay nearly £16 for it! The blush is a really nice pinky shade with little specks of shimmer but the bronzer is way too orange for me, so sadly I won’t get any use out of that. I think it would be too difficult to apply your makeup fully with this duo, as it is genuinely so small, but for touch ups during the day I would imagine it would do just fine.
Number 4 | Lumiere d’Hiver Reconstructing Masque
RRP £36 for 150ml | Received 7.5ml Sample Size
I love receiving hair masks in subscription boxes, especially when they’re from a brand I like as much as Number 4, so this is a welcomed addition in my Birchbox this month. I would have liked to see a larger sample than this little sachet, but there looks like there will be enough within it to cover the legnths and ends of my hair OK. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from Number 4 before, so I’m looking forward to giving my hair a treat with this mask at the weekend.
Honestly, this month I can’t make up my mind whether I love this months Birchbox, or whether I’m not really that impressed. I won’t get any use out of the Whish body butter, or the Jelly Pong Pong Bronzing Duo really, but I’m sure I can gift both of these to one of my darling sisters. However, I do really love the Caudlie tinted moisturiser and I’m super excited to try the hair mask and the salt spray soon. I’m kind of on the fence this month, but I think the concept of the box has swung it for me, as I really enjoyed colouring in the box – although as you can see I’m no where near done yet!
If you fancy signing up to Birchbox, you can use my link – here, which gives us both £5 to spend in the Birchbox shop, which has some really great items and brands. I recently spent over £60 in the Birchbox shop, so if you fancy a nosey at what I picked up with my points you can read that post here. You can also read any of my previous Birchbox reviews here
What did you think of May’s Birchbox? I’d love to know in the comments, if you are subscribed to any beauty boxes and which are your favourite!
