We’re already in the second week of 2016, which is a seriously scary thought for many, including myself. I couldn’t believe how quickly 2015 went for me, but it was a good year so I’m hoping that 2016 will be even better! I wasn’t sure how to start my year of posts, but then I thought that this would be the perfect time to show you guys all of the products that I’ve been completely loving in 2015. Last week I showed you My Complete 2015 Beauty Favourites, and today it’s time to round up my favourite skincare products of last year. In the same format as my beauty favourites post, I’ve actually picked a product from each different category, e.g. Cleanser or Toner, and I’ll be talking you through these individually instead of just picking a few products I enjoyed using.
Cleanser – REN Clearcalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser
Featured in: What’s In My Shower
I’ve been meaning to write a full review on this cleanser since I began using it back in August as this has been my ‘go to’ cleanser since then. I’ve loved everything that I’ve tried from REN, so when I heard people raving about their Clearclam Clarifying Clay Cleanser and realised it sounded perfect for my skin, I picked it up without hesitation. As with everything from REN, this cleanser contains some great, active and natural ingredients. In this case, these include zinc gluconate (to reduce the production of sebum), salicilin (an antibacterial ingredient that exfoliates the skin), manuka extracts (which soothe and nourish skin) and may blossom (which tones enlarged pores). This deeply cleanses my skin without leaving it feeling dry or tight and definitely helps with my blemishes. I don’t have a bad word to say about this and I don’t just think it wins the spot for my favourite cleanser in 2015, but for my favourite cleanser of all time.
Toner – PIXI Glow Tonic
Featured in: PIXI Glow Tonic Review | My Bedside Skincare | Evening Skincare Routine | Skincare & Haircare Empties | Little & Large Skincare Staples | Latest in Beauty Glamour Summer Box Review
As you can probably tell by the amount of posts that Glow Tonic has featured in here on emilyloula, I’m a huge fan of this stuff, and I like to tell you guys about it! If you’re not already aware, I suffer from adult acne, and have had acne throughout my teenage years, meaning that my skin is incredibly scarred and has an uneven texture. However, this has cleared up incredibly since using Glow Tonic on a regular basis. This is because it safely removes the outer layer of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, whilst bringing fresh new skin to the surface. It contains glycolic acid which can also help to lighten skin pigmentation, such as blemishes or age spots, and is great for acne or blackhead prone skin. I’ve written a full review of this here, so I won’t go on too much about it, but you should just know that it’s total holy grail status for me, and I truly believe all the hype around this product is justified.
Micellar Water – Garnier Pure Active Micellar Water
Featured in: October Beauty & Skincare Favourites
Last year, the introduction of Micellar water really took the beauty industry by storm, with every brand releasing their own version. After trailing many of these myself, the top spot for me definitely has to go to Garnier’s Pure Active Micellar Water specifically for combination to oily & sensitive skin. I’m a complete convert to micellar water’s in general, as I think they’re absolutely perfect for a first cleanse, correcting eye makeup mistakes, or when I’m too lazy to do my complete skincare routine. I tend to find with micellar water’s that they leave a slight tacky film over my skin after use, but I haven’t had this problem with Garnier’s offering. I find this removes my makeup, including stubborn eye makeup with ease, and doesn’t dry out or irritate my skin at all- perfect.
Skincare Gadget – Magnitone Full Monty
2015 was the year of cleansing devices for me. I first started off with a really cheap version from a supermarket, and after realising I really loved the concept, I upgraded to the Magnitone Lucid (full review here). I absolutely fell in love with my original Magnitone, so when I saw that Magnitone had released a bigger and better cleansing device I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. The Magnitone Full Monty isn’t just a regular facial cleansing brush though, it also has two extra heads, one of which can be used as a body exfoliating brush, and the other is a Pedi-Buff head that is to be used on your feet. One device, 3 separate heads, and 5 different modes, for beautifully conditioned skin from head-to-toe. I haven’t gotten round to reviewing this just yet, but there will be one up within the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for that. This is another product that I haven’t got a bad word to say about, and one that I would honestly recommend to everyone.
Day Cream – Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light
Featured in: My Bedside Skincare | Little & Large Skincare Staples
I originally received a little sample of this inside one of Latest in Beauty’s boxes and I only had to use it a few times, before I knew I had to purchase the full sized pot. Simply put, this is a gorgeous, every day moisturiser that sinks into my skin almost immediately, leaving it feeling incredibly soft. I picked up the light version as I have oily skin, and I’ve found that this is absolutely perfect for me, but there is a more intense version which most likely will be better suited to you that have dry or dehydrated skin. This doesn’t feel greasy after application, and doesn’t leave my skin feeling like it has any strange residue on the surface either, two things I hate when it comes to moisturisers. This is perfectly suited to me, and I’m sure I’ll be repurchasing for along time coming.
Night Cream – Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep
Featured in: Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep & Day Cream Review | October Beauty & Skincare Favourites
In 2015 I tried my fair share of night creams, but absolutely none of them have come even close to Vichy’s Idealia Skin Sleep in my opinion. To me, this isn’t just a regular night cream, there is definitely more to it, and I’ve been unable to find anything that makes my skin look and feel in the same way as this does when I wake up in the morning. This is another product in this post that I’ve written a full review on, so if you fancy reading an in depth review of Vichy’s Idealia Skin Sleep you can find that here. But to summarise, this soothing gel balm is clinically proven to stimulate all the deep sleep mechanisms your skin naturally has, by repairing it over night – even if you are sleep deprived like me! It contains some great ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B3, LHA and Caffeine, which help my skin look healthier, plumper and genuinely clearer come the morning. It’s a complete miracle in a pot, and I’m honestly so glad I was introduced to this, this year – my skin absolutely loves it!
Eye Cream – Benefit It’s Potent!
Featured in: My Bedside Skincare | Little & Large Skincare Staples | Birchbox September 2014 Review
For some reason I can’t find my full sized version of Benefit’s It’s Potent, so you’re going to have to do with a photo of the mini today (which you can actually purchase for £5), so apologies! This is another example of a product that I’ve fallen in love with and have purchased the full size after receiving a sample in a beauty box. I do feel like I’m slightly cheating by saying that It’s Potent is my favourite eye cream of 2015, as technically it’s the only eye cream I’ve used throughout the year. But, I have a good reason for this. Out of every eye cream I’ve previously tried, this is by far the best, so I ultimately had no reason to try out anything else. It has quite a thick consistency, which I personally like, and it hydrates my under eye area, as well as banishing those nasty dark circles. Since starting to work night shifts, I thought the bags under my eyes would quadruple in size, but this trusty cream has kept them completely at bay, and that’s why I truly love it.
Spot Treatment – La Roche Posay Effaclar A.I.
Featured in: Top 3 Spot Treatments Under £10 | Evening Skincare Routine | Escentual French Pharmacy Haul | May 2015 Favourites
La Roche Posay are a brand that I only became familiar with in 2015, yet they have quickly become one of my favourite skincare brands to date. There are many products from them that I absolutely love, and use on a regular basis, but my ultimate favourite product, and the spot treatment I constantly rely on is their Effaclar A.I. Targeted Breakout Corrector. This is unlike any regular spot treatment that I’ve previously tried, as this corrector really goes the extra mile, by not only treating and soothing the original blemish, but also helping with the pigmentation and/or residual marks that are often left behind. Along with adult acne, I also have hyperpigmentation which means that after my spots and blemishes have healed, I’m always left with darker or red scars, so this has been a real life saver for me. Since I can use this to actually treat the blemish, as well as preventing the scarring from occurring, I really feel like this helps to nip the problem of hyperpigmentation in the bud. This was a great discovery for me in 2015, and it’s a product I truly can’t see myself without now.
Lip Balm – NUXE Rêve de Miel
Featured in: Escentual French Pharmacy Haul | Top 3 Lip Balms for Super Soft Lips Under £10 | Evening Skincare Routine
If you’re looking for an intense moisture hit to your lips, you need to buy NUXE’s Rêve de Miel right away. With such a high cult status in the beauty industry, I couldn’t resist picking one up when I did my Escentual French Pharmacy Haul – I’m now onto my second pot and can 100% vouch for it’s accredited status. It’s a thick yet non greasy balm, with a lovely rich and luxurious texture that’s truly unlike any balm I’ve previously tried. Containing some amazing natural ingredients such as Honey, Sunflower, Musk Rose and Almond oils, Shea Butter and Grapefruit essence, it’s a real treat to your lips and smells incredible too! I tend to use this as part of my night time skincare routine as an intense overnight treatment, meaning that when I awake in the morning, my lips feel in incredible condition, without any of the effort. Although it is pricier than the standard lip balm you’d find on the highstreet, sitting at £9.50, I truly think it’s worth every penny, as I haven’t found anything that repairs and nourishes my lips like it.
What did you think of my top skincare products on 2015? Have you tried anything from this list, or is there anything you’re tempted to try now? As always, I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments, and thank you so much for reading.
