Today I thought I would share with you my favourite lipstick of 2014 and one that I reach for more often than any other of my beloved lipsticks.
The winner of the crown is KIKO’s Velvet Mat Satin Lipstick in 613 Pink Carnation. The most gorgeous everyday pink mauvey nude matte shade that goes with absolutely everything. If you’d like to read a full review and swatches 5 more of these lipsticks, you can see my full post here
I was lucky enough to receive this lipstick as a present from my younger sister. Now, normally the idea of someone else picking out a lipstick for me scares me slightly. The same as a lot of people, I’m very fussy when it comes to shades and finishes, but as soon as I opened this lipstick I knew she had got it just right.
Isn’t the packaging the most gorgeous thing? I love anything Rose Gold, so this is right up my street. It feels quite heavy, really sturdy and well made, especially when you take into consideration the price – £6.90! The design is something that I haven’t come across before – to open it, you have to push the top inwards, and the lipstick slides out from the bottom. I think this is a great feature, making it travel friendly, it stops the lipstick falling out in the bottom of your bag – something every girl hates.
I am a huge lover of matte lipsticks, however a lot of the time this can mean a dry formula often tugging upon application. This is not the case at all here, the lipstick glides on so smoothly with absolutely no tugging and it’s not drying in the slightest.
Truthfully it has more of a satin-matte finish rather than full on matte, but I think it gives the most gorgeous effect once applied, and this really helps with the texture. It contains high-melting waxes, making it light and comfortable, but at the same time giving you high pigmentation for great coverage on the lips.
As I mentioned, 613 – Pink Carnation is the most gorgeous nude mauvey pink shade, that literally goes with every makeup look I’ve tried. It’s so wearable, I find myself reaching for it all of the time. The pigmentation is great, it really only needs one swipe to look fab. It’s kind of like a my lips but better shade but with a beautiful satin matte finish, that you can wear day or night.
This lipstick has also got some added bonuses, it’s been enriched with K2 Repulp, which is a multi-function plant extract active ingredient which works to moisturise, plump, energise and revitalise your lips, as well as helping with aging prevention due to collagen and Sirtuin 1 (protein of youth!)
There are 15 different shades available in the Velvet Mat Satin line, currently I only own the one – 613, Pink Carnation. However, I’m sure a trip to my local KIKO store, will change that – I’m already eyeing up 610 – Rosy Brown & 608 – Apple Red.
All in all I absolutely love this lipstick (if you couldn’t already tell), it’s such a beautiful wearable shade with an amazing formula to match. I would honestly recommend this lipstick to anyone on the lookout for something new – even if it is just to swoon over the gorgeous packaging!
This is my first item from KIKO, but I’m already in love – have you tried anything from them?
