Earlier this week, I wrote a post on what was in my beside table (here). There was a picture of my skincare, but I didn’t go into any detail, as I wanted to save it for a separate post – and ta-dah here it is. All the items you see within this post are just the bits that I keep next to my bed, that can be used without a trip to the the sink. My other skincare items (including my cleansers, exfoliants and cleansing brush) live in another caddy in my bathroom – if you’d like to see a post on these, let me know.
I bought the caddy that holds all my skincare items from IKEA a couple of months back, it was really inexpensive (although I can’t remember how much – sorry!). It holds everything I need it to and keeps my bedside drawer organised.
My bedside skincare includes;
> PIXI | Glow Tonic
> Clinique | Anti-Blemish Solution
> L’Oreal | Skin Perfection Micellar Water
> Nip+Fab | Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Facial Pads
> Talika | Photo-Hyra Day Cream
> Vichy | Aqua Thermal Light Cream
> W7 | Nighty Night Dream Cream
> NUXE | Nuxellence Detox
> Benefit | It’s Potent! Eye Cream
> Soap & Glory | Dr Spot
> Anatomicals | Zap! Zap! Zap!
> e.l.f | Zit Zapper
> Dr. Jart | V7 Turnover Booster
> Simple | Cleansing Facial Wipes
> Balmi | Strawberry Lip Balm
> Elizabeth Arden | Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick
> The Body Shop | Facial Massager
First up are my favourite products from the bunch – especially PIXI’s Glow Tonic & Clinique’s Anti Blemish Solution. Both of these products have literally changed my skin completely. PIXI’s Glow Tonic is amazing (full review is here), it’s an exfoliating toner that helps to tone, firm and tighten the skin. I can’t believe what a difference this has made to my pores and skin in general, I’m so impressed. Clinique’s Anti Blemish Solution is my other all time love, fab at keeping my spots at bay. This is another gentle exfoliant, this opens clogged pores, evicting blemish causing bacteria. I cleanse normally then use Clinique’s lotion first, followed by PIXI’s Glow Tonic.
Micellar Water is something that I can’t live without now, and L’Oreal’s is my personal favourite. I’ve mentioned this many times on my blog, but it’s just perfect. It feels like water, and can be used all over your face and eyes. It removes makeup easily and effectively and makes a great staple next to my bed. I mainly use it to remove pesky mascara smudges or lipstick.
I bought Nip+Fab’s Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Facial Pads after reading a raving review on Miss Makep Magpie, and I haven’t looked back since. I don’t use these every day, but they are great to have next to my bed for those late nights when I can’t be bothered with my full skincare routine. They are really effective, and I love having these pads saturated with goodness ready to use, when I’m being extra lazy.
Next up is my selection of creams that reside next to my bed. I have two day creams, two night creams and an eye cream in my little box.
For my day creams I switch between Talika’s Photo-Hyra Day Cream and Vichy’s Aqua Thermal Light Cream, both of which I absolutely love. I received Talika’s offering in My Little Energy box (post is here), and I’ve fallen head over heels for it. It’s just a lovely day cream that sinks into my skin leaving it feeling amazing for the whole day. At £43.50 a pop, I probably won’t repurchase this after mine is done, purely for the price but if I could get it any cheaper, I wouldn’t hesitate. Previous to this I had been using Vichy’s Aqua Thermal Light Cream, which as the name suggests, is a light cream that again sinks into my skin straight away. I’m not a fan of greasy moisturisers or ones that leave a residue, so both of these are perfect for me.
I also switch between two night creams, just to keep things fresh. Currently I’m using NUXE’s Nuxellence Detox, which I received in LookFantastic’s March box (post is here). This regenerates the skin and eliminates toxins over night and gives me a lovely glow when I awake in the morning. This is also slightly pricey at £47 a bottle, maybe I would repurchase but I’d like to try out some other night creams first. W7’s Nighty Night is on the other end of the spectrum, at only £4 a pot. This is a much thicker intense cream, that helps to rejuvenate the daily damage to your skin, and one that I really love.
Last but not least in this section is my beloved It’s Potent! Eye Cream by Benefit. This helps to fade dark circles, and smooth fine lines to give brighter, younger looking eyes. I absolutely love this cream, it does exactly what it says on the tin, I can’t believe the difference it makes to my dark circles. I would continue to purchase this again and again, a little goes a long way though, so I don’t imagine that will be any time soon.
The next section of my skincare is for my pesky spots. I suffer with adult acne, and although it’s not nearly as bad as it used to be as a teen I still suffer outbreaks quite regularly so I like to keep these products close by. My personal favourite of the three is Soap & Glory’s Dr. Spot which comes in a little tube and is a gel consistency. It contains pore-refining salicylic and lactic acids, plus a blend of irritation soothers, redness reducers and oil-secretion slowers. I use this all the time with my frequent break outs and couldn’t be without it. It does everything it states – 100% recommend.
I also keep Anatomicals Zap! Zap! Zap! in my drawer as well as E.L.F’s Zit Zapper. Both of these are also really good at calming my spots down, but Dr. Spot is my firm favourite. I like Anatomicals one because it has two separate ends, one for the day time, which is transparent, and one for the night which is a white-ish colour.
Now to the kind of miscellaneous skincare items I keep in my drawer. I have Simple’s Cleansing Wipes, although I rarely use these, they are definitely handy to have. Balmi is a really lovely lip balm with a thick consistency – great for applying underneath those harsher lipsticks.
But my favourite lip product here by far, is Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick. I’m a big fan of the original Eight Hour Cream, so to have it in a lip ‘stick’ is perfect. I often get dry skin around the edges of my lips as well, so I apply this all over, and around my lips, and when I wake up, no dry skin in sight. I use this morning, night and often during the day, it’s improved my lips so much but I’m almost finished it! It does RRP at around £20, but you can normally find it discounted to around £10 at various places. I would definitely recommend picking it up if you’re in the market for a new lip balm that really works!
The only serum in my bedside skincare collection is Dr. Jart’s V7 Turnover Booster, which I think is fantastic. It contains 7 types of vitamins including Vita 3 Complex which is my personal favourite from the list as it helps to reduce the appearance of pigmentation caused by acne, which is something I suffer with. It starts off as a light, clear gel but turns into liquid once applied to the skin, sinking in very quickly. I haven’t been using this religiously recently, but I really want to start to as I’ve read it can do amazing things to your skin – stay tuned.
Last but by no means least, in my skincare box is my Facial Massager from The Body Shop. I picked this up on a whim in an online order, but I absolutely love it now and couldn’t imagine my skincare routine without it. You can use this to reduce cellulite, cystic lumps, saggy skin etc etc, or to just help your moisturiser to go into your skin better. I can honestly see I’ve noticed a difference on the skin around my neck, it feels a lot firmer, and my skin generally looks refreshed. I use this all the time, especially when I’m watching TV – just rolling it across my face. For £6 if you haven’t tried this – I would definitely urge you too!
So that’s it for my bedside skincare, sorry for such a long post but there’s a few gems hidden in my drawer that I wanted to share. Let me know your thoughts!
