My Little Road Trip Box Review

When I started to become obsessed with makeup, and the beauty industry in general, I also became addicted to subscription boxes. Rewind 2/3 years or so, and I was subscribed to over 9 different boxes, all being delivered around the same time of the month, drowning me in various products. Obviously, this was a *bit* extreme, so I whittled my way through the different boxes, in order to chose a few I would continue to purchase. I made my mind up on two boxes, Birchbox, and my personal favourite – My Little Box – both of which I’m still subscribed to today, and love dearly.

My Little Road Trip Box Review July 2015 emilyloula blogIf you aren’t aware of My Little Box, they are a French based monthly subscription service that send out the most adorable boxes. Each month there is a different theme, and they’re always full of great beauty and lifestyle items – a lot of which are created in house by their designers. If you fancy checking out any of my previous My Little Box reviews you can here

For the majority of the time, subscribers of My Little Box get the same items, but often there is a few bits that slightly differ between the boxes. In My Little Road Trip Box, I received;

> Nail Lacquer | Essie
> Summer Sorbet After Sun Body Gelee | My Little Beauty
> Micellar Cleansing Water | Garnier
> Gold Metallic Temporary Tattoo’s
> My Little Travel Organiser
> My Little Super Postcard
> Biro & Stylus Pen | Bic
> My Little World magazine & Quote Print

Nail Lacquer in ‘Toggle To The Top’ | Essie

RRP £7.99, available here
This full sized nail varnish was the first thing that caught my attention in this month’s My Little Road Trip box, although I have to admit, I’m not particularly impressed. Last month’s box (review here), included another nail varnish, so I feel like they could have added something a bit different this month. Also this shade is from Essie’s 2013 Christmas collection – so definitely not summery at all, and finally – I’m not sure what this has to do with a road trip at all? Maybe I’m missing something here, but I really think they could’ve chosen something else that fitted with the Road Trip theme better. Don’t get me wrong, Essie are a great brand and this shade is lovely – my little sister has already snatched it up, but I just feel it’s not very fitting this month…

Gold Metalic Temporary Tattoo’s

RRP £3.50, here
These temporary tattoo’s have been all the rage recently – especially in beauty subscription boxes! I’ve seen them in my Latest in Beauty Summer Edit & June’s Birchbox, and each time I’ve mentioned they’re just not something that I would use. My little sisters are always happy to see them though, and they get whipped away in a flash, so it does show that they are definitely popular – maybe I’m just getting old and boring?

My Little Road Trip Box Review July 2015 emilyloula blog BeautySummer Sorbet After Sun Body Gelee | My Little Beauty

RRP £9, here
This gorgeous smelling after sun is my favourite beauty item within the My Little Road Trip Box, and one that I’m definitely looking forward to using. It’s described as a sorbet, which I think is perfect as it’s really cooling and refreshing – great for those days where you’ve been out in the sun and need a little pick me up. I think the packaging of this is adorable and it smells absolutely delicious – reminding me of a summery fruity ice lolly!

Micellar Cleansing Water | Garnier

RRP £1.99, here
I’m a massive fan of Micellar water’s so I was happy to see this little travel sized version of Garnier’s in the My Little Road Trip box. Micellar water is perfect for removing your makeup before cleansing, giving your skin a freshen up, or removing stubborn eye makeup. It feels just like water on the skin, which is great for people with sensitive skin or people who are particular with their skincare because of textures/scents. All of the micellar waters I’ve tried are fairly similar, I’m currently using L’Oreal’s version which is my personal favourite, but I am a fan of Garnier’s too. This will be perfect for travelling as it’s a miniature size of 125ml so I’ll be stashing this away with the rest of my travel mini’s – great for a road trip!

My Little Super Postcard & Bic Biro and Stylus Pen

RRP £4.90
The first lifestyle item inside the My Little Road Trip box is this adorable My Little Super Postcard. This is a little notebook, concealed to look like a postcard, containing about 10 pages so you can jot down all your memories or little notes to your loved ones. Simply write inside, then seal the ‘envelope’, address it, stamp it, and send it on it’s merry way. Whilst I think this is a really cute addition to the box, and something I’ve never come across before, I’m not sure how practical it is. I’d love to say I would get use out of this, but I know that I won’t and it will sit in a drawer gathering dust. If I was to go on holiday or travelling and wanted to get in touch with my family or friends, it would be via a phone or skype call, an email or a text message. So the reality of me actually filling this in, buying a stamp and waiting a week or so before it arrived at it’s destination is quite unlikely. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a lovely, unique idea, but one I won’t personally get use out of – I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! In addition to this ‘postcard’ was a pen from BIC, which unlike the usual biro, included a stylus attached to the other end. I used to do a lot of note writing on my iPad when I was studying, and these stylus’ are perfect for that, I wish I had this stylus pen combo back then!

My Little Travel Organiser

RRP £10.50, here
The next lifestyle item in the road trip box is this adorable travel organiser, which has been designed by My Little Box’s in house designer, Kanako. I absolutely love the My Little Box illustrations – I think they’re so quirky and unique, and I’m really starting to build up a lovely little collection of items. The travel organiser is great because it has one big zip along the side which is super handy so you can stash all your travel documents away safely inside. When you open it up, there’s then a lot of little pouches made specifically for your personal items such as your passport or cards. My sister is jetting away next week, so she’s nabbed this from me for her trip, but I’m definitely having it back afterwards! I think it’s a lovely addition to the My Little Road Trip Box and one that I’m sure a lot of people will love and get use out of.

So that’s it for July’s My Little Road Trip Box, and again it’s another box that I can’t honestly make my mind up on. I’m a massive fan of road trips, and just getting away or going on adventures, so I really loved the theme this month, I just thought that some of the products could have reflected this theme a little better. I think the travel organiser is lovely, and I know I’ll get use out of the delicious smelling after sun and adorable mini Micellar water, I just feel a little let down by the Christmassy nail varnish and the little notepad/postcard. I don’t know if I’m just getting particularly fussy with the subscription boxes or not – so I’d love to hear your thoughts on this month’s box! Of course, I’m still going to keep my My Little Box subscription running, as I do absolutely love the boxes in general. If you fancy signing up to My Little Box you can do so here, and you can read all of my previous reviews of the boxes here

What did you think of the My Little Road Trip Box? What would have been your favourite item? Are you signed up to any subscription boxes? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments, and thank you for reading!
