This time a year ago, I hadn’t actually tried any MAC lipsticks at all, which is quite shocking really since I’m a beauty blogger and lipsticks are pretty much my weakness in life. However, I finally got round to it and bought my first one back in Autumn in the shade Mehr. I fell completely in love with it, the shade is perfect and the formula is amazing, so I knew I had to pick up some further shades and try out their other finishes. Since Christmas I’ve got my hands on a further 4 MAC lipsticks, so in the next instalment of my ‘New In’ series, I’ll be talking to you about these utter beauties.
(L-R Twig, Whirl, Ellie Goulding’s Only You & Verve)
Twig – Satin
Out of these 4 lipsticks, Twig is definitely the one that I’ve worn most often, and I would imagine that this will continue as I do think it’s my favourite from the bunch. I would describe it as a dusky pink browny nude – a very wearable lipsticks that goes with a multitude of makeup looks. It’s extremely pigmented, as you can see from the swatches below, and as it has a satin formula, it’s long wearing but not drying. I wore this out to dinner the other day, and was obviously eating and drinking throughout, but afterwards my lipstick looked exactly the same – I was genuinely so impressed! This is the type of lipstick that I’ll wear on a daily basis and the shade is very ‘me’ so if you have any other MAC Lipsticks that resemble Twig I’d love some recommendations!
Whirl – Matte
After seeing that MAC had bought out a sister for their famous Whirl lip liner, and reading various rave reviews, I knew I needed to add it to my collection. My sister was kind enough to buy it for me for Christmas, and since then it’s become a favourite within my collection.Whirl is a medium rosy brown that again has warm undertones, and the matte finish means it’s pretty long wearing. This shade works really well with my skin tone, and isn’t too brown for me, as it has a rosier finish rather than a flat basic brown. MAC’s matte finish is one of my favourites, as it’s not too drying like other similar formula’s but it definitely is a true matte, which I love.
Ellie Goulding > Only You – Cremesheen
I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought a lipstick in this type of shade, as light pink or corals just aren’t something that I normally opt for. However when I saw that Ellie Goulding was going to release a collection with MAC, I knew I wanted to get my hands on at least one of the products. When it was finally released and I saw the gorgeous packaging I placed an online order the same day – I think it’s one of my favourite MAC collections to date! I only actually picked up one product from the line, although I did want a lot more, and that was the Cremesheen lipstick in ‘Only You’, which was the slightly darker lipstick out of the two that were released. Only You is a beautiful light coral shade, that has slight warm undertones and leaves a really pretty pink sheen to the lips with a little bit of a shimmer. I didn’t think that this would be a lipstick that I would get a lot of wear out of, as I rarely opt for lipsticks that have shimmer in them, however this really does look stunning on the lips. The shade is really pretty, and the shimmer just adds that extra dimension making my lips look fuller – an effect I obviously really like! As you can see from the swatches the pigmentation is more on the sheer side, but you can build it up with a few swipes if you so wish.
Verve – Satin
Verve is the darkest lipstick on this list, and probably one that I will get the least amount of wear out of, purely for this reason. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s an absolutely lovely shade, and it’s unlike anything else I have in my collection but only on certain occasions will I wear such a dark colour. I would describe it as a deep brown with maroon undertones, with a beautiful satin finish. This is a shade that I would use when the rest of my makeup is more neutral looking, as I think it really finishes of the look, but would be too much if I had a full on smoky eye as well – but of course, each to their own!
So those are the new MAC Lipsticks that I’ve added to my collection recently, and I’m really happy with all four of them! Next up I’ve got my eyes on Brave, Taupe and the classic Velvet Teddy, but as per usual I’m always up for recommendations!
What are you favourite MAC lipsticks? Have you tried any of the shades I’ve mentioned here or would you like to? As always I’d love to have a read of your thoughts in the comments and thank you so much for reading!
