Last weekend my friend and I, hopped on the train and headed into London for a day filled with all things beauty. We arrived at London Olympia before lunchtime, and spent the day at the Beauty Blogger Awards and at Beauty Olympia. A whole post about our day will be coming soon here on emilyloula, but first I thought I’d show you what I picked up on the day from NYX Cosmetics.
Whilst at the Beauty Blogger Awards I visited the NYX stand and spoke to some of the lovely ladies there about their products. After a great chat and a visit into the photobooth (photos coming soon!), I was given a lovely little goody bag containing a few fab items! They also informed me that if I headed over to Beauty Olympia and visited their NYX stand there, that there were loads of products for sale, all with a discount (all prices on this post are RRP). As NYX aren’t readily available here in stores in the UK yet, I haven’t tried much from them but what I had tried I loved, so I knew I wasn’t going to be leaving that stand empty handed.
After spending quite some time browsing and shopping at NYX’s stand, I left with quite a lot of great products, however these actually aren’t all for me. As some of you may have noticed, last week I hit 1,000 followers on Bloglovin’ which was a huge achievement for me, and one that I’m really proud of. To celebrate this, and to thank all my readers and followers, I thought I would put together a load of different products from various brands in a big giveaway. So I picked up some bits from NYX for myself, but I also picked up a fair few items that one of you lovely people will be able to win shortly! All of the items that will be added into my giveaway, are brand new and haven’t been opened or swatched at all, they’re ready for their new home! I thought I’d include these items in my haul post anyway for you to see, but I’ve separated them out so it’s clear what I’m keeping and what one of you could win. If you’d like to see the other products featured in my giveaway worth £150 and have a chance of winning my giveaway, you can enter that HERE
HD Studio Finishing Powder > £9.50
Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation in ‘Ivory’ > £9.00
Baked Blush in ‘Ignite Passion’ > £4.50
From the goody bag that NYX very kindly gave us, I was most excited to see this HD Studio Finishing Powder. I really love a good finishing powder, and I had previously heard some great things about this particular one from NYX, so I’m really looking forward to giving this a try. If I hadn’t of been generously given it, I would have definitely bought it myself from the NYX stand anyway as I’ve had my eye on it for a while! Also in my goody bag from NYX was this Baked Blush, which is actually marketed as a Baked Blush + Bronzer + Illuminator. I don’t have another product like this in my stash, and I don’t have a blush that’s this shade either, so this was another item that I was particularly happy to receive.
As a matte foundation addict, when I saw that the ‘Stay Matte But Not Flat’ foundation was on offer at the NYX stand for about £5, I realistically couldn’t leave without it. I’ve used this once since picking it up last week, and so far I’m pretty impressed. It gives a good medium coverage which can be built upon to gain a fuller coverage effect without going cakey. I can’t comment on how well it wears just yet as I only wore it out for a few hours in the evening, but I’ll definitely be trying it out again soon, and I’m sure a full review will make its way onto emilyloula.
Matte Lipstick in ‘Natural’ > £6.00
Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Stockholm’ > £5.50
Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘San Paulo’ > £5.50
Jumbo Lip Pencil in ‘Deep Red’ > £5.00
Lip Liner Pencil in ‘Nude Pink’ > £3.50
Lip Liner Pencil in ‘Mahogany’ > £3.50
When I heard that NYX had their own stand in Beauty Olympia offering discounts on all items, I couldn’t wait to see what lip products they’d be stocking, as I had previously had my eye on quite a few. Unfortunately there were no testers available at all for any products on the stand, so I had to judge through packaging which I thought I’d like best. I specifically knew I wanted to get my hands on some of NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams but unfortunately some of the shades I had been eyeing up were out of stock, so I didn’t come away with as many as I had quite hoped. I picked up two shades for myself – Stockholm & San Paulo, as well as picking up two others for my giveaway (carry on reading…). These smell like cake, the shade range is beautiful, and the matte formula is so comfortable to wear – what’s not to love?! Another matte lip product that found its way into my basket was the NYX Matte Lipstick in Natural, which is a beautiful light mauve pink shade – an almost my lips but better shade with a bit more oomph. I wouldn’t say that this has a full on matte finish – it’s much more of a satin matte, however the formula is lovely, and very wearable. The only slight niggle I have about this lipstick, is that you can actually twist the tube inside with the lid still on. Unfortunately for me, meaning that I’ve already managed to scuff the top of the bullet on the inside of the lid.
I’ve really started to get into wearing lip liners recently, as I’ve finally realised what a difference they make to the longevity of my lipstick. With discount, these NYX Lip Liner Pencils were about £3, which I think is a massive bargain, so I picked up three, two for myself in ‘Nude Pink’ & ‘Mahogany’ and another for my giveaway prize. I haven’t used these yet, but I did swatch my two when I got home, and so far I’m pretty impressed – they’re super pigmented and feel really creamy, so I’m looking forward to putting them to good use.
The last lip product I got from NYX was this Jumbo Lip Pencil in ‘Deep Red’, which as the name suggests is a gorgeous deep red, perfect for the autumn season that’s just started here in the UK. This lip pencil is incredibly pigmented, moisturising and comfortable to wear on the lips – a formula I’m really impressed with. I’d like to get my hands on a few more of these lip pencils in other shades that I’d get more wear from, as a full on red isn’t something I reach for often, however I’m really happy to have this in my collection now.
Waterproof Mascara Top Coat > £7.00
Glam Liner Aqua Luxe in ‘Glam Golden’ > £5.50
Jumbo Eye Pencil in ‘Milk’ > £5.00
Eyebrow Gel in ‘Brunette’ > £4.50
I always said if I could invent a product in the beauty world, it would be a waterproof mascara top coat, and little did I know that NYX had already launched one themselves. I’ve even mentioned a few times here on emilyloula, how much I hate waterproof mascara, and how I’d love a top coat instead, so when I saw this one from NYX on their stand, I couldn’t walk away without it. This is yet another product that I haven’t gotten around to trying just yet, but I’m super excited to – maybe my prayers will be answered?! I have a feeling that this waterproof mascara top coat is either going to be completely revolutionary, or is going to be an ultimate fail and waste of money, but only time will tell…
Two further products that were generously included in our NYX goody bags was this intriguing little tube of Eyebrow Gel and a waterproof Glam Liner. I’ve never tried a gel product like this on my eyebrows before, as I’ve always thought I wouldn’t be able to blend it out properly, and I’d end up having harsh, solid blocks of colour as brows. But since getting in it my goody bag, I thought I’d have nothing to lose by giving it a go. I’ve only quickly tested this out on my hand but the gel is very pigmented, and a little goes a long, long way. To my surprise it actually blends out quite easily so I’m feeling slightly more confident now. I’ll definitely be giving this a go when I have a free day at home soon, so I’ll keep you guys updated!
The Glam Liner Aqua Luxe I received is in the shade ‘Glam Golden’ which is a very dark brown/just black shade containing little golden flecks which gives the most gorgeous effect on the eyes. It’s very pigmented, the brush allows precise application, and with a long wear time there’s nothing for me not to like here!
Other than the Matte Lip Creams, another NYX product that I knew I wanted to pick up was the Jumbo Eye Pencil in ‘Milk’. I had heard really good things about these jumbo eye pencils, and particularly this white shade as it can be used as an eyeshadow base to make the shades you apply on top really pop. This has a nice, fairly creamy consistency, and the pigmentation is strong, so it’s a real pure white shade on my lids, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Next time I try out a ‘proper’ eye makeup look (and not just a quick wash of colour to my lids like I do 90% of the time) I’ll definitely be reaching for this as a base.
Butter Gloss in ‘Strawberry Parfait’ > £5.00
Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Antwerp’ > £5.50
Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Ibiza’ > £5.50
Love in Paris Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Be Our Guest Maurice’ > £10.00
Liquid Crystal Liner in ‘Crystal Silver’ > £4.00
Colour Mascara in ‘Forget Me Not’ > £4.50
Nude Matte Eye Shadow in ‘Tryst’ > £5.00
Lip Liner Pencil in ‘Never’ > £3.50
Since I obviously don’t know who’s going to win my giveaway, I thought I would buy a range of products from various brands in different shades and finishes, hoping that at least a few things will suit the winner. As well as these items from NYX, I have included a lot of other products in my giveaway, which is worth over 150! To be in with a chance of winning this huge bundle, you can enter my combined giveaway here
I already owned one of the NYX Butter Glosses, and I really love it so I thought this other one would be a great addition to the giveaway. These aren’t too pigmented, but give a gorgeous flush of colour on the lips which I love. As previously mentioned, I also picked up four of the Soft Matte Lip Creams, two for myself, and two for the giveaway, but since trying them, I now wish I could keep all four for myself – I absolutely adore them! I’m sure whoever wins, will be as happy as me with them, especially since the two shades (Antwerp & Ibizia) are utterly gorgeous. I also added one of NYX’s nude matte eyeshadows into my basket for the giveaway, as I really don’t think you can go wrong with a light brown neutral matte shade in your collection can you?! Another couple of bits that will be added into my upcoming giveaway are a NYX Lip Liner, an Eyeshadow Palette and a Liquid Crystal Liner along with lots of other items from other brands that I’ve been stashing away.
I hope you enjoyed having a little nosey into what I picked up from NYX and that you’re excited for my giveaway, which will be coming in the next few weeks – stay tuned! If there’s any items here you’d like me to do a full review of, let me know and I’d be more than happy to!
Have you tried anything from NYX? If so what’s your favourite item, and if not what would you like to try? As always, I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments, and thank you so much for reading!
