Primers never used to be something I ‘did’, but now I’m obsessed, and every time I see someone putting on their makeup without one I have to tell them off, I can’t help it! I have to be honest, when I was in school, I don’t think I had even heard of what a primer was. I ‘stumbled’ across them when I started subscribing to beauty boxes and would get little samples like Laura Mercier’s primer, then fell in love.
To anyone who currently doesn’t use a primer I would strongly recommend starting, even if it is just a cheaper one to get you going. In general a primer will create a barrier between your skin and makeup, it will keep your makeup on for longer, and stop your skin from absorbing your makeup and clogging up your pores. Smashbox’s primers are definitely my favourite of them all!
Smashbox says ‘Banish Blemishes! This perfecting primer treats breakouts, provides oil-free hydration and keeps skin clearer over time. Clinical testing showed that women had clearer skin in just 2 weeks’
The primer contains 2% salicylic acid, which is the highest % allowed without a prescription. Salicylic acid is commonly used to treat skin conditions including acne, by reducing swelling and redness and unplugging blocked skin pores to allow pimples to shrink.
I have very blemished skin with some quite severe acne scarring, and although my skin isn’t nearly as bad as it was when I was younger, I still suffer from very minor acne. I am very self concious about the scarring and in turn have searched the globe for something that will clear my skin up, I feel like I have tried everything going! But I have to say, I think this could be the answer.
I can’t praise this enough, I haven’t changed anything else in my daily routine except adding this blemish control primer but my skin looks better than it ever has. It has reduced my scarring and my face generally looks less ‘red and angry’. I also have not had any breakouts since I have been using it. I use my primer every morning before I put my makeup on, and even if I’m staying in and not wearing any makeup I will try to apply this alone. It has a really nice thin consistency, it isn’t sticky at all and doesn’t leave any greasiness on my fingers after I apply it. It is clear and unscented, and dries really quick without drying my face out. It doesn’t crack or feel tight on my skin. I really do not have anything bad to say about this primer and I would recommend it to anyone who has issues with blemishes, acne or scarring.
