You Beauty Discovery July 2015 Review

Somehow today is the last day of July, and by tomorrow August will be upon us – I find that almost unbelievable. I know it’s so cliché and everyone says it, but this year, and specifically July, has gone super fast for me. Since it’s the final day of the month, I thought it would be the last chance I would get to let you read my thoughts on this month’s You Beauty Discovery BoxYou Beauty Discovery Box July 15 emilyloula beauty blog

You Beauty Discovery Box July 15 emilyloula beauty blog

The You Beauty Discovery box is a subscription box, with a slight twist from the normal beauty boxes that are available. On the 1st of each month You Beauty release the shortlist allowing all subscribers to chose two items to add to their box, along with some other added freebies.

This month’s You Beauty box had a great lineup, and like previous months I found it quite tricky to make the choice of which products I wanted. In the end I settled with the Hairy Jane Hair Perfume & the Wild About Beauty Lipstick. Along with the two products chosen, subscribers are sent some extra goodies, this month’s included;

> St.Tropez | Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion
> Emma Hardie | Protect & Prime Sample
> Nairins Muesli | Breaks Oatcakes

Wild About Beauty | Lipstick in ‘Bobbie’

Full Sized Item | RRP £15 from here
For my first choice I picked this lipstick from Wild About Beauty. They’ve been a brand that I’ve been really fond of for some time now, so I was really glad to see them in the You Beauty selection. Back in September (review here), this lipstick was also on the shortlist for the You Beauty box, so I nabbed one then too. I absolutely loved the shade I received – Bobbie, which is a beautiful creamy nude lipstick, perfect for every day wear. Unfortunately for me, my box this month also came in the same shade that I already own.  I thought that instead of having two, I would save this lipstick for a big giveaway that I’m planning very shortly! If you’d like to have a chance getting your hands on this lovely lipstick, keep your eyes pealed!!

Hairy Jane | Hair Perfume & Heat Protector

Full Sized Item | RRP £12 from here
I’ve always been intrigued by hair perfumes, but it’s not something that I would ever see myself splashing the cash on, so I thought that this month’s You Beauty box would be the perfect opportunity to try one out. July’s list included this pretty little hair perfume with added heat protection from the brand Hairy Jane. It’s said to refresh and restyle your hair between washes, by helping to calm frizz, add shine and protect from heat styling. I personally love the packaging of this, it’s in a little cute 30ml glass bottle including an atomiser spray, which easily allows you to distribute the product through your hair. Described as including Grapefruit, May Chang & Jasmine, it has such a lovely refreshing, uplifting scent, perfect to give your hair a pick me up between washes. I actually really like this, and it’s definitely something that I know I will get a lot of use out of.

St.Tropez | Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion

50ml Sample Size | RRP £14.50 for 200ml from here
The first freebie that caught my eye was this gradual in shower tanning lotion from St Tropez. If you’re a regular blog reader, or are just generally aware of the beauty/tanning industry I’m sure you’ll have heard so many people discussing this particular tan recently. All the reviews I’ve read for this have been pretty mixed, some people absolutely love it but others seemed to have found it pretty useless. I haven’t tried it out myself yet, but I’m really looking forward to doing so and forming my own opinion on it! If it works, it sounds like it will be great, perfect for lazy girls like myself, or people limited to time.

Emma Hardie | Protect & Prime Sample

I’m not a huge fan of sachet samples in beauty boxes, but I class this as a freebie instead of  an accountable item in the box, so I honestly can’t complain. Also unlike most samples I find within boxes it’s not actually a body lotion, but a makeup primer – so it’s right up my street. I’m going to keep this sachet of primer for a night away, as it will be so handy to travel with, instead of having to take a whole bottle/tube with me.

Nairins | Muesli Breaks Oatcakes

One of my little sisters nabbed this out of the box and said she really enjoyed it, so that’s a plus I suppose! It’s not something I would personally pick up during my shopping, but I’m sure a lot of people would… A nice added extra to the You Beauty box this month!

line-break-dots

Overall, I’m really impressed with the You Beauty box, it’s such great value! I took a risk on picking the same lipstick again, and unfortunately it didn’t pay off for me, but I can’t complain, and one of you lovely people will hopefully have it soon! The hair perfume is lovely, and I’m really looking forward to trying out the in shower tan! The added extra’s were a nice touch – and one was supposedly very delicious!

My July You Beauty Box is worth over £31 which I think is amazing value considering the box is only £6.95 including delivery. This is definitely the cheapest beauty box that I’ve ever come across and the shortlist always contains a range of really lovely products. If you want to start out with a beauty box, but don’t want to waste your money on products you might not like, I would definitely recommend trying out You Beauty. Each month you get to chose from the selection available, so if nothing really takes your fancy – just don’t renew! If you fancy reading any of my previous You Beauty Box review’s they’re all available here, and if you want to sign up to You Beauty, their website is here.

What do you think about this month’s You Beauty box? Would you consider subscribing? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments and thank you for reading!

  • I love the fact that they give you the option to choose two products you want, thats a bonus for me but these are some really nice products, I’m always worried about using new products in my hair though, scared I’ll damage it or something.

    • It’s such a great idea for a subscription box isn’t it! I love the idea that you can pick your own products too! I wish I was worried about my hair in that way, mine is sooo damaged from years of dyeing and badly caring for it, so I’m using anything I can to spruce it up now haha! xx

  • Bloody hell, that’s a good box. I keep meaning to sign up for a Beauty Box but there’s so many and I have no idea where to start…plus whilst it’s meant to be summer, I don’t want a load of tanning products as I don’t use them lol.

    • Such a good box – especially for the price! There are so many beauty boxes on the market, but if you’re looking to start out, this is definitely a good option. Since you can pick the products you want, hopefully you wouldn’t be disappointed! I’ve never thought of that before, about the summer meaning tanning products, but that’s such a good idea! Save off until Winter and you’ll get some gorgeous deep shades of makeup instead! Thanks for reading Sarah xx

    • Ah really that’s a shame you don’t get these boxes around you! I always think that the US has better boxes which is funny, like I would love to get my hands on Ipsy! Thank you Kelsey xx
